Kimora Lee Simmons and her reality show, “Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane,” are back … and this season, she’s not messin’ around! I had the pleasure of interviewing the “mogul/model/mom” as she likes to refer to herself, at Style Network headquarters in Los Angeles, and I have to say, I was pretty impressed. This intelligent business-savvy woman is a force to be reckoned with, and she knows it!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the series, “Fab Lane” follows the ex-model-turned-fashion-mogul as she wrestles with her business commitments — she’s CEO of the Phat Fashions clothing empire founded by her ex-husband Russell Simmons — and her family.
Kimora recently wed “Blood Diamond” star Djimon Hounsou, and last May the two welcomed baby boy Kenzo Lee into the family. Their son joined big sisters Ming Lee and Aoki Lee, Kimora’s daughters from her marriage to Russell Simmons. Got all that?
My favorite revelation from our chat? I love that unlike some celebrity moms, Kimora is like a mother lion with her cubs. “I’m very guarded about my kids,” she said. “They don’t have cell phones or BlackBerry’s. They don’t wear two-piece bikinis or makeup.” Acknowledging the fact that she does let them experience a little of the Hollywood hoopla, she admits, “Yes, they’re on TV, but it’s only for very guided, guarded moments.”
Kimora lights up when talking about her new addition, Kenzo Lee. It’s very exciting to have a boy,” smiles Simmons. He’s very rough and playful. He stands without holding on, hes trying to walk, and he cruises around.” When asked who her little boy takes after, the mile-a-minute mom laughs, “Hes quiet and easygoing, so I think thats like Djimon.”
In season 3, fans will see Kimora giving birth to her new baby Kenzo, battling with renovations for the family’s new home in Beverly Hills, launching a new fashion line, and doing a cover shoot for Ebony magazine just weeks after Kenzo’s arrival. “My life is what it is, and my show chronicles my life,” says Kimora with a laugh.
“Kimora: Life in the Fab Line” premieres Sunday, March 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the Style Network.
